A job as an ultrasound technologist can be both fulfilling and relatively lucrative. The educational requirements though challenging, are not extensive. An ultrasound technician takes images of organs, specifically, their shape, composition and motion.  For instance, a technician may take pictures of a patient’s heart or the fetus in a mother’s womb, the latter referred to as obstetrical imaging. An ultrasound radiologist will record the images so that a patient’s doctor can interpret them and make a diagnosis, if necessary.

Because ultrasound is non-invasive, it is ideal for diagnostic purposes.

 

Ultrasound technologists typically work in hospitals and private health care facilities. The pay is good and there tends to be a great deal of flexibility not found in many other professions. The aforementioned makes it very attractive for those interested in going into the health care field. Ultrasound technology is a good option for both young workers, just entering the job market and those looking to change careers. Because the educational requirements can be met in two years, individuals can receive the training they need to either start or change careers pretty quickly.
